Elcassette
Elcassette is Maria Cincotta on guitar and synthesizer and Elke Brams on the drums. Their music is an unapologetic combination of indie rock, riot grrrl, and experimental pop colliding with electro surprises. With songs ranging in subject matter from love and death to dyke bars and domestic violence, the words catch the listener off-guard with brash honesty. Maria is influenced by queercore and indie music from the Pacific Northwest, as she lived in Portland, Oregon for quite a while. Spending her formative years locked in her bedroom with her four-track and a guitar, she developed a passion for home recordings and multi-tracking. Listening to college radio and sneaking out to punk shows helped her solidify a d.i.y. aesthetic that remains present in her music and art. She enjoys listening to Des Ark, the Kicking Giant, Julie Ruin, Mirah, and Kimya Dawson. Maria’s past bands include New York City’s Rude Mechanical Orchestra and Quick Release, and Munich’s Why Don’t You Hear and the Express Brass Band. Elke has played guitar and bass in many bands in her youth. She fronted the indie rock band Sentido before she made her debut behind the drums for the punk-alternative band Concrete Overkill. Her musical style is influenced by drummers such as Stewart Copeland, Dave Grohl, and Terry Williams, just to name a few. She enjoys music from the 80’s, especially Falco, the Police, Michael Jackson, and David Bowie. She is also a big Bjork and Tori Amos fan.
